David Gray is a contemporary artist living and working just outside New York City in Rye, New York. After earning his B.F.A. with honors from Syracuse University, he built a career that bridges painting, film, and design. This multidisciplinary approach shapes the way he works on canvas, giving his paintings a cinematic quality—rich in atmosphere, layered with narrative, and grounded in emotion.
At the heart of his practice is a pursuit of connection. Each work is created to spark thought, memory, or feeling, drawing the viewer into a dialogue with the piece. Gray describes his process as both liberating and intimate—a balance of discipline and instinct that allows each painting to take on a life of its own.
Gray’s paintings have been acquired by private and corporate collections across the United States. While it is often bittersweet to see a work leave the studio, David finds deep fulfillment in knowing it will continue to resonate with collectors in its new home. Whether encountered in a home, workplace, or gallery, his work is intended to leave a lasting and personal impression.
